This is a mixed media painting on pastelmat paper. I have used watercolour for the underpainting and the abstract background, but worked the actual leopard in pastels to give it definition and realism.
The reference photo was kindly supplied by Jackie Goddard who had this story to tell of the leopard: "We were in Yala National Park in Sri Lanka last December. It was a late afternoon safari, we had had a fleeting glimpse of a leopard on the morning safari so to see this one in the afternoon was so fantastic and so exciting. He was most certainly a male as he came up out of the Bush and walked along the track in front of us. Our jeep slowly followed behind him at a suitable distance and he wasn't the least bit perturbed. He stopped to sniff the ground, lay down, rolled over and then decided to make his way back to the Bush. It was fabulous!"
This picture was recently chosen by The Fine Art Trade Guild for exhibition in Stratford Upon Avon followed by The Guild gallery in London.
