Hyenas had never really been very high up on my list of favourite animals - working on this picture really changed my mind though. After a bit of deliberation I decided on the title Beauty Or The Beast. I felt that this reflected the tenderness of this mother and baby scene against the view of hyenas being ruthless scavengers.
Did you know that despite their appearance hyenas are more closely related to cats than dogs? I would never have guessed that!
